Wild Style

I went to Melrose the other day for the first time in a long time. (I have not excuse, living so close, but I just HATE finding parking!!) I happened upon Joyrich and was astounded by their new collaboration with Gerlan Jeans! I’m in loooovvveee!! If they had my size, I would’ve shelled out the moolah for a pencil print dress! (So I guess it’s good they didn’t have my size? haha) Across the street is a great store called Wild Style that Joyrich opened at the end of last year. It’s like a giant store of my dream closet! Super funky and crazy clothes that most people wouldn’t dare wear. This outfit today is slightly inspired by this funky style, although it’d definitely not even close to being completely bizarre.

Birthday Suit for a Fancy Giraffe

I love birthdays! This morning my amazing boyfriend woke up early just to surprise me with breakfast! Then after work we had dinner at my favorite place that has the most delicious food & churros! If you’re in Los Angeles, I’d check it out—it’s called “Churros Calientes” YUMMY! Finally ended the night with a good ole horror film, Cabin in the Woods! Who has seen it? I thought it was amazing!! (but really gory >__>) Oh, and my boyfriend’s present to me was this SUUUUUUUPER cute necklace he got from Number A Boutique! I’m SO excited to wear it! If the weather permits, tomorrow I’m totally showing it off with a bright colored outfit! ;)

So I was debating wearing super bright colors for my birthday but I thought I’d keep it kinda classy and elegant with an all neutral look. Plus it was so rainy this morning when I woke up, I thought i’d dress in something warm (all my bright stuff is more for nice Spring & Summer weather)

Low Down

The weather is so flip floppy in Los Angeles during Spring. Was a pretty gloomy day all day and it’s expected to rain tomorrow! Today I wore a pretty casual outfit, sportin’ my favorite gothic lipstick from NARS. I got this slouchy dress on sale I think two years ago… still one of my favorites. You rarely see the low waistline nowadays… reminiscent of the good ole flapper days! I usually wear this look on hot days but since it was chili, I wore it with my trusty black blazer! Both blazer and non-blazer photos are posted below =)

Bandaged

I always feel a little self conscious when I’m wearing such bright clothes… but that doesn’t prevent me from wearing them! haha. I should’ve taken a picture of the back of this awesome new blue bustier I got from Nasty Gal, it’s got a cool cutout pattern! And I couldn’t resist getting this bandage skirt, I had to at least get one since they’re everywhere now and are so versatile and great for color-blocking! =) I’m always covering up with a blazer so I’m more work appropriate for work. I’m just lucky my work even lets me wear what I do!

They Call me (un)Mellow Yellow

Ever since I decided not to care about how tall I was in heels, I’ve become more of a shoe addict (oh no!) These are my latest additions, some bright red Jeffrey Campbell heels! They’re slightly harder to walk in than the Litas but totally worth it! And what’s better to pair with my bright red shoes than a bright yellow dress?! Usually I wear this dress without a belt (I love the unique a-line silhouette), but I figured since I had a red belt, it’d add to my color scheme! I always get compliments when wearing this dress. People definitely don’t wear bright yellow very often, but I love it! I sort of think people don’t believe it will look good but with some red accents (especially red lipstick!), the yellow makes a beautiful bold statement =)

Shar Truce

Loving this new skirt I got last week! It’s a chartreuse color… chartreuse seems to be becoming more and more popular this season. Colors, colors, colors! Both pastels and neons… I love it! I’m also wearing two necklaces: my usual favorite House of Harlow necklace plus a new yellow/pink/gold weave necklace I got at a shop in Little Tokyo called Number A. What a gem of a shop! It’s like Nasty Gal but in shop form! I think it definitely calls for a trip back =)

Sorry for being a little MIA again, wasn’t feeling too swell these past couple of days, but I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things! Plus there will be some stuff coming up that I’m excited to share!

Also, on a semi-unrelated but important note, the Vimeo Award nominees were announced today! I don’t know if any of you are interested in film, but my boyfriend is one of the nominees in the Narrative category! His short film, “A Bitch” was nominated! I’m SOOOOO proud of him! Please, if you have any time to spare, vote for his video! You can vote once a day! It would mean a lot to both him and I! Thank you!!

Light Bright

Wow, it’s been a heck of a week! It was my 2 year anniversary with my amazing boyfriend Matt AND I got to help out on a Vogue photoshoot because of my awesome friend Gustavo! I don’t think that I’m allowed to say much about it but it was definitely a great experience and I was in fashion heaven! I wanted all the clothes that were there O__O! Can’t wait to see the final photos!

So, I’m continuing to stockup on bright clothes! I love how wearing bright clothes somehow makes me happier… does it for you? Especially with all the rain we’ve been having this week (in Los Angeles) I sometimes forget it’s spring!

This amazing sweater from ASOS actually also comes in cardigan form too, but I’m glad I got the sweater. Just so it didn’t get too hot in the office, I went without an undershirt and just faked it with a fake collar. Finally, amazingly enough, my American Apparel chiffon scarf matched perfectly with my outfit and so I wore it around my head and I think it really gives a cute finish to the whole look =) Also, don’t forget my neon yellow socks I bought off eBay years ago… I knew they’d come in handy one day! ;)

funny expression? ^__^;;

Paint it Black

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, whether you celebrate Easter or not! It was my amazing-stupendous-handsome boyfriend’s birthday this weekend (he takes the pictures for this blog!) so we celebrated by going to the Aquarium of the Pacific. It was so wonderful! I’d forgotten how AMAZING some tropic fish are and how CUTE sea otters are!! It was also my amazing-stupendous-beautiful best friend Emily’s birthday as well! I got to visit her new house (fit for a queen! with an elevator and theater!) and we hand painted galaxy-print shoes! I’m pretty proud of mine and I’m so excited to wear them!!!

Shoes from Target painted with puffy paints!

I had blonde hair for about two years before I decided to grow it out again. Even though I loved it, my hair was getting way too damaged and the upkeep was such a handful! Thank goodness growing out my roots is kind of trendy right now… haha, how ironic!

But anyways… my point being I never wore any black clothes because I felt like it clashed with my light hair (I know, doesn’t make too much sense) but now I love black! And I love this dark plum lipstick I got from NARS. It looks black but if you look closely there is a touch of color. It kind of gives off a vamp-vibe, haha.

(Wow, how do I always end up wearing a whole outfit from one store?? Makes me look lame, haha)

Made in the U.S.A.

I’m all decked out in American Apparel today. It’s funny because my closet is overcome with it since I donated a bunch of my clothes before I moved last Fall and then bought a bunch of AA…so you may realize I own a lot of it, haha! Lately I’ve been feeling more self-conscious about where my clothes are made. I’ve been realizing that even big ‘fancy’ brands all have their clothes and accessories made in China, Bangladesh, etc.

We all have tons of things made in China and most of the time we don’t even think about it. We forget that there are sweatshops and horrible working conditions. There have been news stories of H&M workers fainting and who remembers the documentary that exposed Wal-Mart’s horrible business Chinese factories a few years ago? Made me disgusted with the company! And yet we still consume it. Sometimes it’s hard to buy things NOT made in China and I’m definitely guilty of owning many clothes that were probably made by sweatshops, but I hope for a better future with our industry.

I believe that American Apparel is doing amazing things for our economy (creating fair-wage jobs that are sweatshop free!) so I feel compelled lately to buy things from them. I feel like they are often time judged by their “shocking” marketing campaign that objectify women, and yet I ask you this… don’t all ads and magazine covers do just the same? There’s no denying I’ve seen some racy stuff and breasts in ads and modeling photos many times before. But if the lighting is “commercial” then all of a sudden it’s okay? Sorry for the rant. I’m not saying that I may entirely agree with ANY clothing company’s marketing campaign but if I were to choose of one of the lesser evils, I would say American Apparel is doing more good than other companies. ^__^

WITH THAT SAID, I’m really into the sort of ‘preppy’ look that American Apparel has. (Also, is it me or did it seem like they started the trend of chiffon and maxi skirts?) Also, did you notice… I’m wearing new glasses! Yet, my old black glasses that I’ve had for 6 years have retired! Probably not permanently since I feel like those are a bit less imposing on my face, but alas, I’m excited for a change! I got them at a vintage glasses place in my neighborhood!

Spring Fling

I used to wear pastels so often, but pastel items were nearly impossible to find! Most of my wardrobe was from shopping in Japan! But this Spring, pastels are EVERYWHERE and I’m loving it! I’m definitely having a spring fling with pastels and bright colors! I kind of went crazy with this outfit but wild gets you noticed, right? ;) I really need to get some lighter colored shoes though, especially since my wardrobe is growing with things to match!
